Busy Bees Behind The Scenes

We’ve been a little quiet on the blog recently- we’re sorry, we’ve just been so busy! But it does mean we have a lot to fill you in with!

Most of you will have seen that Open Farm Sunday had to be cancelled- we are still so gutted about that! We have become so busy that we just couldn’t promise you the best possible experience! We have high expectations of ourselves, and with so much going on with alternative provision, farm club, and our services for adults with additional needs and school trips, we just couldn’t prepare the day to be as fab as we wanted it to be!

The weather has been pretty wet anyway, so we’re hoping to be back and sunnier than ever for Open Farm Sunday next June!

On a more positive note- this week and next week is seeing lots of new faces joining our alternative provision and services for adults with additional needs. Primary and secondary school children who thrive in an outdoor learning environment spend time at the farm learning practical skills, cooking, gardening, and how to look after the animals.

With bespoke services and a lot of new people, we’ve had a lot of planning to do to make sure each day is just right for each individual. Over the next few weeks, we’ll get to know each other better and have experiences that are truly right for each person.

We still have Farm Club running after school on Mondays (3.45-4.45), Wednesdays (4pm-5pm) and Thursdays (3.45pm-4.45pm). Farm Clubbers come from Scunthorpe, Goole, Epworth, and pretty much anywhere in between- so new faces are always welcome and are sure to make some new friends! Each week is different with lots of different activity going on in the garden, with the alpacas, and on the working farm!

We’re busy behind the scenes planning Farm Club throughout the summer holidays. We run on Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout the holidays, from 9.30am-3pm. We have The Urban Worm CIC joining us on 7th August, and are planning lots of other guest slots too!

Summer holiday sessions are just £20 per person, or £15 each when 6 or more are booked at once (6 sessions per child). Have a look on our Facebook for a chance to win 6 FREE sessions!

How to book

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be harvesting gooseberries, rhubarb, tomatoes, shallots, garlic and potatoes, so keep an eye out on social media and on our honesty box for what we have fresh each day. We also have lots of tomato plants, fresh herbs and honey for sale by request too.

We’re in the process of making prompt cards for those who respond better to having a visual of what they will be doing. Below are some that we are starting off with, to cover gardening, cleaning out the water and feeding the alpacas. Over time, this will build up to having more and more images and cards, that lots of visitors will benefit from.
